Alabama's Katie Britt, the youngest female Republican representative in the U.S. Senate, will deliver the party's response to President Joe Biden's third State of the Union address Thursday night.

When Alabama was reelected to the U.S. Congress for the halfway-finished 40th Congress in 1868, the 6th District consisted of northwest Alabama. Blount County was the only county left in the district. It also includes Jefferson, Marion, Walker, Morgan, Limestone, Franklin, Lauderdale, and Winston counties. Colbert County did not exist at the time, but was part of Franklin County. It was one of the first Alabama districts where Democrats took back control after the Civil War.

On June 8, 2023, the Supreme Court affirmed its previous findings that the map discriminated against Black Alabamians. In Allen v. Milligan, Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court's liberal wing (Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor) and ruled in favor of Milligan. The decision was considered a surprise victory for Alabama voting rights activists, upholding a federal panel's ruling that Alabama illegally diluted the power of Black voters. The decision forced Alabama to redistrict before the 2024 election, including drawing a second, majority-Black district. The Alabama Legislature was required to convene a special legislative session in order to draw the new electoral map.

Located in east-central Alabama, it includes Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Claiborne, Lee, Macon, Randolph, Russell, St. Clair, Talladega, and Tallapoosa counties, and parts of Chilton County. Cities in the region include the city of Phoenix, Talladega, Tuskegee, and Auburn. Prior to the most recent redistricting cycle, the 3rd District included parts of the city of Montgomery, the state capital, in Montgomery County. Federally, the district leans strongly Republican, though not as strongly as some other districts in the state. In 2008, John McCain won the district with 56.21% of the vote, while Barack Obama won 43.04%. The district is currently represented by Republican Mike Rogers and was once represented by former Alabama Governor Bob Riley.

Election Finalized: Alabama, under Attorney General Steve Marshall, requested a stay on a federal panel's decision not to approve the legislature's new map. On September 26, 2023, the Supreme Court again rejected Alabama's request, meaning the special primary maps will be used in the 2024 election. All three proposed remedial maps increased the percentage of black voters in the 2nd Congressional District from 48.5% to 50.1%. The Alabama Democratic Conference, the Alabama Democratic Party's Black Caucus, also announced the same day that it planned to file an objection to the special primary maps, saying the maps were insufficient to create a majority-minority district. The conference proposed its own redistricting map in the objection, but it was rejected by the federal panel.

Former President Trump, who almost clinched the Republican presidential nomination, said she contacted him after the Republican Party made the in vitro fertilization (IVF) decision. Trump called Bullitt a "very good young senator from Alabama."

In the 2020 redistricting cycle, the Alabama House of Representatives' electoral maps were accused of violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965. 27% of the state's population is African American, but only one of Alabama's seven districts is majority black. The federal government believes that the districting is unfair and that the majority-black 2nd District illegally discriminates against black voters, and is trying to promote redistricting. However, on February 7, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court approved Alabama's request for a stay of execution of the case, allowing the map to be retained for use in the 2022 election cycle, but fully reviewing the case after the next election cycle.

In 2013, Britt received a doctorate in law from the University of Alabama. In 2018, Britt was elected president and CEO of the Alabama Business Council. The Alabama Business Council is known as one of the state's "most influential political organizations," and Britt is the first woman to lead the organization. Britt also worked hard to persuade local people to participate in the 2020 national census.

Less than a month after its first victory in the southern United States at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee, the UAW suffered a defeat. It had hoped to replicate Volkswagen's victory in Alabama. But supporters of the union faced strong opposition from Mercedes and political and business leaders in Alabama.

Britt's mother was a beauty pageant winner, and Britt followed in her mother's footsteps at an early age. Beauty pageants in Alabama are highly competitive, but Britt won two local pageants in first and second grade. In 2000, at the age of 18, Britt won the title of "Miss Teen Alabama" and later won the national competition.

A Republican strategist with ties to Alabama described her as a "four-corner senator" who can speak to people from different factions of the party - "not only can she speak smoothly with moderates, but she can also go with MAGA"

Alabama's Seventh Congressional District is a United States congressional district in Alabama that elects one representative to the United States House of Representatives. The district includes Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Marengo, Pickens, Perry, Sumter, and Wilcox counties, as well as parts of Clark, Jefferson, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa counties. The district includes parts of Birmingham, Montgomery, and the Tuscaloosa/Northport metropolitan area. The largest city entirely within the district is Selma.
